About Collin County, Texas and its District Attorney’s Office

The current elected District Attorney of Collin County is Greg Willis. Some of his policies are to be tough on DWI offenses. The county appears to have an unofficial policy of never dismissing or reducing DWI charges to “Obstruction of a Highway,” like every other County in Dallas-Fort Worth. According to their website, the most commonly charged misdemeanors in Collin County are: Assault, DWI, Terroristic Threat, Criminal Mischief, Criminal Trespass, and Theft. Their website does not list the most commonly charged felonies, but according to LexisNexis, there were: 76 motor vehicle thefts, 59 aggravated assaults, 46 residential burglaries, 33 burglaries of other buildings, 9 robberies, 3 arsons, and 1 sexual assault reported through December 18, 2024, and January 17, 2025.

Collin County has a number of specialty courts, including Pre-Trial Diversion, and Mental Health Court. Where successful admission and completion will result in the dismissal of the charges, and make the defendant eligible for an immediate expunction of their records.
